Job Description

Technician, Roads Infrastructure Team, Perth PKC10249
£32,210 - £35,532
Pullar House, 35 Kinnoull Street, Perth PH1 5GD

An enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced person is required to join Perth & Kinross Council's Roads Infrastructure Team within Planning and Development.
Perth and Kinross is at the heart of Scotland and, as well as being a beautiful area with easy connections to all points north, west, east and south, holds ambitious plans for sustainable economic growth. This ambition seeks to harness the innovation and creativity of the area – capitalising on our natural assets, great connections and the talent and potential of our communities. Indeed, the Council itself is making major investments in areas including our education facilities, whilst the cultural scene is also recovering from the pandemic period. In addition, the Tay Cities Deal will also be a catalyst for further growth. Beyond this, we are also working hard to mitigate climate change, improve environments and ensure all can lead healthy and active lives in a low-carbon energy efficient environment. As well as being a great place to live and work, Perth & Kinross Council provides opportunities for training and development and a chance to be involved in projects that will define your career whilst shaping the future of our city, towns, smaller settlements and countryside. You’ll benefit from excellent annual leave entitlements, annual leave purchase scheme, pension scheme, flexible working arrangements, car lease scheme and many other employee perks including cycle to work scheme, corporate leisure membership and staff wellbeing support.

This exciting post provides an interesting opportunity to be a vital part of a small team which delivers Capital funded roads infrastructure projects, the most high profile of which is the £150 million Cross Tay Link Road which commenced construction in Summer 2022. Your main duties will involve assisting the team in the delivery, management and co-ordination of projects ensuring that the outputs meet programme, governance, contractual and financial requirements. You will carry out site supervision duties ensuring that large roads infrastructure projects are constructed to contract requirements, in accordance with planning consents and applicable environmental legislation. You will be expected to prepare and check contract documents, procure services and manage contractual arrangements including tendering processes in the development and delivery and implementation of projects. You will also be expected to prepare design documentation to the relevant standards and guidance before supervising projects through construction stage, ensuring their successful delivery while liaising with affected stakeholders.

The Individual

As a minimum you must be qualified to HNC level in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) or be able to demonstrate the equivalent experience in civil engineering, project management, contract management or other relevant discipline. You must have a good working knowledge of health and safety legislation. You must also have demonstrable experience in supervising road construction projects. Experience of designing and/or managing road infrastructure projects, knowledge of current roads legislation and design standards and a full current UK driving licence are all essential.
