Trading Standards Authorised Officer/Trading Standards Officer, Perth PKC10904
£32,210 - £35,532 TAS7
£40,243 - £42,946 PR9 (Career Grade Structure post)

Trading Standards Authorised Officer (TSAO)/Trading Standards Officer (TSO)
Reporting to the Principal Officer-Trading Standards the post will involve carrying out out the general tasks associated with Trading Standards. There will also be opportunities to learn and progress professionally.
For TSO and TSAO-
-The investigation of alleged breaches of criminal trading law, intelligence led investigation of unfair trading practices and product sampling/test purchasing.
-Take on the lead officer role in a particular area of trading standards law
-Provide advice and guidance to local businesses and consumers in respect of the criminal and civil obligations under trading standards legislation
-Carry out national/local enforcement projects and community planning initiatives
-Attend meetings on behalf of the Service and the Council as required.
-Work closely with other agencies and/or neighbouring authorities to facilitate joint working arrangements
-Adhere to the Council’s policies and procedures
Additionally for the TSO-
-Carry out the duties of an Inspector of Weights and Measures.
-lead on more complex investigations.
-assist other officers in your specialist area of knowledge.
Additionally, for the TSAO
-there will be an opportunity to study to gain qualification as a professional TSO and progress to the higher scale on qualification.
This is not an exhaustive list and the post holder may be required to perform duties other than those given in the job description for the post. The particular duties and responsibilities attached to posts may vary from time to time depending on the requirements of the Service without changing the general character of the duties or the level of responsibilities entailed.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in an enforcement or audit environment and will have a good level of education to HNC (SVQ3) level, technical or legal subjects will be a benefit. To be appointed above the qualification bar the candidate must hold the Diploma in Trading Standards or equivalent and as part of this will be qualified to act as an Inspector of Weights and Measures. The post is also ideal for people already engaged with the Chartered Trading Standards Institute Qualification Framework, though, while related studying will need to be conducted in the post holder’s own time, time will be allowed for exams and training courses. People in this position would be appointed at the lower pay grade until qualified.

Applicants should possess excellent communication skills at all levels, an ability to work effectively on their own initiative, and also be able to support the wider performance of the Trading Standards team through a culture of teamwork and flexibility. A driving licence is essential.
