Reporting to the Waste and Recycling Manager within Environment, Housing, and Infrastructure, you will make a major contribution to continually improving service development and delivery. You will support on the ongoing development and delivery of the Council’s waste management responsibilities, including (but not limited to):
Statutory compliance, development, and implementation of strategies; delivery of recycling and waste management functions and use of research and innovation to optimise efficiency and effectiveness of the service.
In addition to these core functions, you will play a major role in the Council’s Sustainability and Net Zero ambitions.
You will support the Waste and Recycling Manager in ensuring the council is fully conversant with the wider national /international recycling agenda and will lead the development of relationships with key external partners.
You must be educated to Degree level or have relevant appropriate professional experience
It is essential you have experience of waste services within a large and diverse organisation, experience of managing people, effective leadership , motivational , project management , decision making and written and verbal communication skills.
You will have a proven track record in financial management., experience of working strategically with key partners and experience of Business Management and Health and Safety Management Systems.
You will have knowledge of the statutory and legislative requirements of the service and relevant national and local programmes and frameworks.
You must have experience of Business Management and Health and Safety Management Systems, formulating and implementing operational plans within a large and complex organisation and Clear analytical skills to allow the exploration, evaluation and interpretation of information and opinions.
A driving licence is also essential.
This position is critical for driving improvement of the council’s recycling and waste services as well as the continuous improvement and development of the Household waste centres.
Supporting the Waste and Recycling Manager, you will be responsible for the direct management and delivery of the Council’s waste strategy, disposal and business services.
You will manage a variety of complex functions and covering a very broad range of topics, including (but not limited to):
- Ongoing development and delivery of the Resource and Recycling Strategy
- Ongoing implementation of new systems within Environment & Infrastructure
- Ongoing development and delivery of waste management and recycling function
- Development of workforce to support priorities of the service.
- Development of collaborative and supportive culture.
- Ongoing development and delivery of the Council’s obligations in relation to statutory compliance
