Role Purpose
Berwickshire High School is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, skilled and committed Secondary Teacher of Technical Studies to join the Technologies Faculty.
The successful candidate will deliver high-quality learning and teaching across Technical Education, supporting pupils to develop creativity, practical capability, design thinking, problem-solving skills and confidence. The post provides an opportunity to contribute across the Broad General Education and, where appropriate, the Senior Phase, including National Qualification courses relevant to the successful applicant’s registration, experience and expertise.
We are looking for a teacher who can create safe, inclusive and well-managed practical learning environments; motivate young people; maintain high expectations; assess and report progress effectively; and work collaboratively with faculty colleagues, technicians, support staff, parents and partner professionals. A sound knowledge of safe working practices in practical Technologies subjects is essential.
Applicants must hold an appropriate teaching qualification in Craft and Design, Design and Technology, Technical Education or another relevant Technologies subject and must be fully registered, or eligible for provisional registration, with the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
Applications are welcomed from experienced teachers, newly qualified teachers and probationers. The school may also consider applicants whose registration and background enable them to contribute effectively to Broad General Education Technical Education, including suitably qualified teachers with a relevant technical, design or art-based degree, subject to GTCS registration requirements.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to curriculum development, school improvement, wider achievement and the broader life of Berwickshire High School. Experience of Technical Education courses, practical and design-based assessment, CAD or digital design tools would be advantageous.
We will consider applications for part-time requirements alongside full time.
Essential
•A teaching qualification in Craft and Design, Design and Technology, Technical Education or another relevant Technologies subject.
• Full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, or provisional registration where the probationary period has not yet been completed.
