The Second Engineer is the person on board the vessel who performs the day-to-day engineering duties on board as required by the Chief Engineer. The Second Engineer also assists on deck as required by the Master. The Second Engineer is under the command of the Master and reports to the Chief Engineer.
The main duties of the Engineer are to:-
- Assist the Chief Engineer on his / her vessel with respect to the safe, efficient and cost effective operation of main propulsion and auxiliary machinery operation and maintenance of machinery;
- Ensure, under the direction of the Chief Engineer, that the vessel’s equipment, machinery and electrical systems are maintained in good working order;
- Ensure that the vessel’s machine spaces are regularly inspected during operation and are kept in a clean and safe condition at all times;
- Ensure that systems and equipment identified as “critical”, within the requirements of the ISM Code, are correctly maintained and operated on board;
- Complete onboard planned maintenance in accordance with system requirements including the recording and progression of maintenance, repairs and defects as required by the Chief Engineer;

- In addition to the salary shown, allowances of approximately £20,477.68 per annum (pro rata) are payable.
- Temporary Full Time posts for 56.0 Hours per Week , 52.18 weeks per year
- One Temporary post until 31 March 2025, One Temporary post until 31 January 2025
- A relocation package does not apply to this post
- We will pay interview expenses from within Shetland
- You must have the ability to travel throughout Shetland at short notice and where public transport is limited
