The Trainee Pensions Officer is responsible through the Pensions Supervisor, for ensuring that pension administration tasks are carried out in an accurate and consistent manner thus ensuring a high quality of service is maintained at all times. Due to imposed deadlines, pension tasks require to be completed in short timescales and under pressure. The post-holder will be expected to deal independently with predictable or routine problems (e.g. retiree looking for payment or refund of benefits, queries from managers regarding retirement costs, queries from HMRC, etc) and make decisions. This requires the Pensions Officer to have a thorough knowledge of the Pensions Administration System and CHRIS Payroll System, along with a sound understanding of Local Government Pension Scheme Legislation. The post-holder will have to prioritise their own workload, plan and schedule tasks in line with both monthly and annual financial cycles.

This vacancy is being advertised as a Career Graded post, which is a career development opportunity. This means that the Council is committed to supporting the successful candidate to obtain the necessary skills, abilities and knowledge to become fully competent in the role.
