Job Description

What is the role?

Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board was established by the Valuation Joint Boards (Scotland) Order 1995 to carry out the valuation functions of East Ayrshire, North Ayrshire and South Ayrshire Councils. It came into existence on 1st April, 1996 and was also given the responsibility of carrying out Electoral Registration on behalf of the three constituent authorities.

The Assessor for Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board is responsible for compiling and maintaining the Valuation Roll (listing all non-domestic properties in Ayrshire liable for business rates) and the Valuation List (listing all dwellings in Ayrshire liable for Council Tax).

We are offering an exciting opportunity to work within our Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rating teams, with the opportunity for long term career progression, and are keen to receive applications from talented Chartered Surveyors. In addition to carrying out property inspections and valuations, analysing rental transactions, devising schemes of valuation, negotiating complex appeals with professional agents and acting as expert witness, you will be required to assist with the direction, supervision and organisation of professional and technical employees and will deputise for the Divisional Assessor and/or Divisional Valuer as required.

You should be a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Valuation Faculty) with experience in valuation for Rating and Council Tax. You should have excellent influential and motivational skills with a professional and positive attitude. Having the confidence to guide others and to make quick and sound decisions is vital, as it the ability to multitask, plan and prioritise workloads to ensure that strict deadlines are achieved.  

The post will require the successful applicant to have the ability to travel effectively and efficiently within East, North and South Ayrshire.

The Grade of this post is Grade 4 Level 12: the hourly rate is: £25.38 to £26.92 and the salary is: £46,300 to £49,128.
