Job Description

What is the role?

Can you make a difference to the lives of the recently arrived Ukrainian families in South Ayrshire? As a Ukrainian School Assistant you will provide a range of support within school to enable our Ukrainian pupils to feel safe and supported as they transition into the Scottish education system. We work alongside multi-agencies to remove the barriers to learning and provide social and emotional support to Ukrainian pupils and their families who may be suffering from trauma. We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills who can work collegiately alongside the English as Additional Languages team, third sector organisations and the Ukrainian Support Team. The successful applicant will work across the authority, travelling between schools as required.

Previous experience of working with pupils with ASN is desirable.

Previous experience of working with EAL children is desirable.

The Grade of this post is Grade 1 / Level 4; the hourly rate is from from £13.11 to £13.42 and the annual salary, adjusted to a term time working pattern, is from £16,148 to £17,134. This post is temporary until 27 June 2025.

This post is considered to be Regulated Work with children as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) (PVG) Act 2007. Accordingly, the preferred candidate will be required to become a member of the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if already a Scheme member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made.
