Job Description

Hours: 37.64 hours

Location: Forrest Street Depot, Blantyre

You will have the ability to undertake a range of skilled refuse collection and recycling duties ensuring compliance with the Environmental Protection Act, Council Policies and Health and safety Legislation. You will provide a quality front line Refuse Collection Service within the local community.

Previous experience of working in refuse collection, recycling and knowledge of health and safety requirements within cleansing would be advantageous.

Driving Licence DESIRABLE

Recruitment Checks

As part of our approach to good practice and safer recruitment we carry out a number of pre-employment checks for example, Identity, Asylum and Immigration and employment history.

Responsibilities

- To undertake, individually or as part of a team, all duties connected with the removal of household, industrial and commercial refuse from a variety of locations, ensuring the safe operation of mechanisms on vehicles and refuse containers and complying with Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work.

- To participate in the planning of the daily route according to requests for service and to undertake the completion of related records and paperwork as required.

- To assess whether recycling waste is contaminated or clean and advise member of the public accordingly, providing appropriate information on recycling scheme.

- To provide information to members of the public regarding the recycling schemes in operation and advise customers of the full range of services provided by Land Services.

- To undertake waste stream identification, i.e. dry recyclables, metals green waste, fridges etc. and ensure correct disposal.

- Undertake emergency cleaning duties i.e. chemical, petrol and diesel spillages and assisting fire brigade with serious chemical spills.
