Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Council’s Learning and Development Service. We are looking to recruit a fulltime Staff Development Officer (Mental Health) to lead on identifying and meeting the learning & development needs of social work employees who deliver mental health services. A key part of the role will be to coordinate the Mental Health Officer (MHO) Award application and selection process and thereafter support candidates and qualified MHOs undertake the role.
The successful candidate will also work with L&D colleagues to meet the wider learning needs of all employees in Adult & Older Peoples services including managers Although a Social Work Resources post the job will be situated in the Learning & Development Service as part of the Social Work Learning & Development Team.
Requirements
We are looking for an experienced practitioner who has a keen understanding of the MHO role and delivery of mental health social work services. Experience of practising assessing trainee MHOs is essential. The successful applicant will be passionate and committed to ensuring that social work employees who deliver mental health services receive the right learning & development opportunities to support & enable them to undertake their role.

At a minimum applicants should have the following:
• Degree in Social Work, Dip SW, or other recognised Social Work Qualification
• PG Cert Mental Health Social Work (MHO Award)
• Completed Practice Assessor Course for MHO Award
• Registered with the Scottish Social Services Council
• Minimum of 3 years post qualifying experience including undertaking Council Officer & MHO tasks
• Adult Support and Protection Training to Council Officer level
• Experience of supporting the learning & development of others
• Willingness to develop skill and competence in delivery of learning & development
• PVG clearance for regulated work will be required prior to commencement

Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to a formal offer of employment being made by South Lanarkshire Council.
