Job Description

THIS IS A RE-ADVERTISEMENT.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly set up Permanence Team. The team operates across West Dunbartonshire and is based within Church Street Council Offices in Dumbarton.

The role will involve recruitment, assessment and support to carers for West Dunbartonshire’s Permanence Team and identify appropriate placements for children and young people. This will include assessment, monitoring and progressing care plans for looked after children to secure permanence with carers who can meet their current and future needs. This would would involve progressing/writing legal reports and/or Child Adoption & Permanence Reports (CAPR) to be presented at Permanence Panel, Children's Hearings and Sheriff Courts.

Skills in communication, report writing, risk assessment and problem solving will be beneficial to enable the successful candidate to work both autonomously and as part of the team around the child. The ability to build up positive working relationships with area team social workers, foster carers, adopters and external providers is essential.

You should have experience of working with looked after and accommodated children and have an awareness of the challenges that there are around progressing children's permanence plans. Experience of working within a family placement team would be desirable but not essential.

You must have CQSW/DIPSW/CSS or equivalent social work qualifications and be registered with the SSSC or able to attain registration within 6 months of starting this post.

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Children and Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.

Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Responsibilities
