Working in a team of three, the successful candidate will provide effective delivery and oversight of the council’s open space services. There will be particular emphasis on facilitating a suite of projects to repair and improve council play assets, as afforded by the Scottish Government’s Play Park Renewal Fund.

The role will be responsible for implementing and monitoring the council’s aspirations in relation to its Open Space Plan and for planning and delivering a variety of projects to ensure that the councils open space assets remain of a high standard. The role will be responsible for all aspects of project delivery from community consultation and design, through procurement and construction. This may also include external fundraising. Circa. 15 projects per annum are required to be delivered with a value of between £20,000 and £500,000.

Candidates should have some experience of delivering park and/or play related projects in the private or public sector.

The role will be expected to write and present reports both corporately and to elected members and will also deliver open space advice to the general public. 

The post reports to the Open Space and Cemeteries Manager.

Applicants should possess as a minimum:

  • HND in an environmental/land-based subject. Alternatively, must have significant experience and knowledge of open space management.
  • Ability to contribute to strategic direction and implementation
  • Experience of dealing with the public
  • Proven organisational skills and experience
  • Up to date knowledge of applicable computer packages
  • Experience of the preparation and development of strategies, policies and management plans.

The post is based on a 36hrs, Monday to Friday on a flexitime working pattern.
