Join the Edinburgh College Board of Management

Help shape the future of Scotland’s Capital College

Edinburgh College is seeking two exceptional non‑executive Board members to help steer the College through a period of significant transformation and opportunity.

As one of Scotland’s largest and most diverse colleges, we play a central role in unlocking potential, transforming lives, and supporting communities across Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian.

If you are driven by public service, passionate about education, and ready to contribute your expertise at a strategic level, we would love to hear from you.

Why Join Our Board?

This is a chance to make a meaningful difference at a pivotal time for the College and the tertiary education sector. As a Board Member, you will:

  • Shape the strategic direction of a major regional college.
  • Offer independent insight and constructive challenge to support effective decision‑
  • Strengthen your strategic leadership skills while expanding your professional network.
  • Contribute to the College’s ability to respond to the evolving needs of learners, employers, and local communities.

We welcome and actively encourage applications from people of all backgrounds. We particularly want to hear from individuals who are disabled, from minority ethnic communities, or are early in their governance career.

Find out more at our upcoming recruitment event, hosted by Changing the Chemistry 5.30-6.30pm on Monday 27th April. Link will follow shortly.

Who We’re Looking For

There are two vacancies, and we are looking to appoint:

1. An individual with senior experience in People / HR strategy - skilled in workforce transformation, organisational culture, and navigating complex, unionised environments.

2. An individual who can broaden the Board’s collective expertise, ideally with knowledge of entrepreneurship, sustainability, and/or community leadership.

Please see the attached recruitment pack for the full role description and person specification.

Your Commitment

Time: Approximately 1.5 days per month.

Term: Starting in September 2026, for a 3-year term (with potential for reappointment).

Location: Meetings held online or at our four campuses

Remuneration: non-remunerated, with reasonable expenses reimbursed.

Support: Full induction and ongoing development provided

Our Selection Process

For this role, we are working in partnership with an external recruitment company, Leading Kind, who provide digital software to support a robust and fair recruitment process. This approach is designed to reduce bias by assessing your skills at the outset.

Your assignment will be reviewed by a panel who cannot see any identifying personal information, including your CV, while assessing your ability to demonstrate the required skills.

  1. Online Application: including short work‑based scenario(s) and upload of your CV.
  2. Longlisting by anonymised scoring of scenario responses.
  3. Shortlisting by consideration of CVs.
  4. Interviews expected to held on 18 and 19 May.
  5. Appointment to the Board, subject to approval by Scottish Ministers.

Completed applications must be submitted by 10:00am, Monday 4 May 2026.
