The Glasgow Academy is seeking a reliable, proactive, and hardworking School Janitor to join our team in Kelvinbridge. This vital role ensures the smooth operation of the school while maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for our pupils, staff, and visitors.
The role will include Shift Rota (early mornings, evenings, and weekend shifts as required)
Key Responsibilities
Premises Security
- Open and secure school buildings, ensuring safety and security at all times.
- Conduct regular checks of the premises to maintain compliance with safety standards.
Event Support
- Set up and dismantle furniture and equipment for school events such as assemblies, performances, lunches and meetings.
Cleaning and General Maintenance
- Perform routine cleaning duties, including litter picking and clearing gutters.
- Ensure indoor and outdoor spaces are tidy, well-maintained, and free of hazards.
Repairs and Maintenance
- Carry out basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs as needed.
- Liaise with external contractors for more complex repairs, ensuring timely resolution.
Health and Safety
- Act as a fire marshal, ensuring fire safety measures are followed.
- Maintain compliance with health and safety regulations across the site.
Transport and Porterage Duties
- Drive the school minibus for scheduled trips and activities.
- Assist with deliveries, furniture moves, and other porterage tasks.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- A full UK driving licence.
- Working-at-heights qualification or a requirement to complete PASMA and IPAF training.
- Self-motivation with the ability to work independently and proactively.
- Experience using tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- A basic understanding of health and safety regulations.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- Basic trade skills in plumbing, electrical work, or carpentry.
- Prior experience in facilities or property maintenance.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures.
Additional Requirements
- The successful candidate must undergo a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) check to comply with safeguarding and child protection regulations.
