The Department of Applied Computer Games, within the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment, is a dynamic and vibrant academic community with a strong track record in applied research, innovative teaching, and knowledge transfer activities. The department encompasses the academic areas of Games Design and Games Software Development, 3D Animation and Visualisation, and Digital Design. We have 17 academic staff and approximately 500 students enrolled in our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
To support our continuing development, we are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Games Software Development. The primary purpose of this appointment is to play a leading role in the delivery and management of selected Applied Computer Games programmes, which includes both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The role involves teaching core software development topics such as C#, C++, Artificial Intelligence, OpenGL, Unity, and Unreal Engine. The candidate will also assist in the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research theses, potentially support MSc teaching, and contribute to the growth and development of our teaching, research, consultancy, and knowledge transfer activities. Additionally, the candidate will expand our external collaboration networks for both research and teaching, contribute to new and enhanced curricula and taught provision in areas relevant to Applied Computer Games, and inspire current and future students.
Candidates for this lecturer post should be educated to at least masters level, or to a bachelor’s degree level and have a minimum of 3 years’ relevant industry experience. Evidence of a research record and successful grants applications will be an advantage. Experience in relevant industry sectors will be highly regarded. A strong personal desire and commitment to engage in teaching and to contribute to research/consultancy is required.
