The Department of Biological and Biomedical Sciences is dedicated to understanding cell, molecular and systems biology and clinical diagnosis of disease and treatments, and advancing this knowledge through research and teaching. As part of the Research Centre for Health, we have an active and diverse portfolio of research activities that aim to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying a number of long-term conditions, to aid public health and develop novel therapies for treatment of these and associated conditions.

The role will involve investigating the antimicrobial potential of live biotherapeutic products against key pathobionts associated with bacterial vaginosis and pre-term birth. The project will involve anaerobic microbial culture and biofilm testing, with a main focus on cell-culture and organotypic tissue model techniques.

 

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic individual to deliver an externally funded research post working within the Public Health and Infections research group. The role is a full-time position across 5 days per week (1.0FTE) for a period of twelve months. The successful candidate should be educated to PhD qualification or near completion imminently. The individual should have extensive background experience working within a research laboratory, with previous knowledge and experience working and manipulating microbial biofilms desirable. The job role will require frequently liaising with an industrial partner and for outputs and objectives to be delivered in timely and efficient manner. This role requires previous experience of both oral and written scientific communication.
