Lecturer – Support for Learning Fixed- Term

Job Description:

The post holder will support excellence in learning through the preparation and delivery of high-quality learning, teaching and assessment materials and by supporting learners.

Key Responsibilities:

They will work closely and supportively with other colleagues and partners to deliver excellence in learning. The role will specifically involve:

· Teaching and Assessment

· Curriculum Development

· Quality and Standards

· Student Support

· Continuing Professional Development

It is mandatory for new entrants:

· who do not possess the Teaching Qualification in Further Education (TQFE) or equivalent to complete the:

o Teaching Essentials Programme within the first 6 months of their employment;

o Professional Development Award within 12 to 18 months; and

o TQFE thereafter in due course.

· to be registered with General Teaching Council (Scotland) – provisional or full registration.

This post will have a teaching remit at an agreed number of class contact hours (minimum of 3 hours).

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise:

The successful candidate will be expected to deliver on a wide range of programmes, from Level 1 to Level 4.

You should have experience in providing flexible and innovative approaches to the delivery of the curriculum within the area of Support for Learning and have the ability to deliver a range of units to students with additional support needs.

You should have current relevant industrial or practitioner experience in the context of the Support for Learning area and have experience in teaching students with additional and multiple support and learning needs within a further education setting and of delivering assessment and verification in the context of SQA and the National Curriculum.

The successful candidate should be able to adapt to the pace of the individual learner with a supportive approach with individuals demonstrating a willingness to learn new tasks and to attend relevant training. You should promote and safeguard the welfare of vulnerable Adults with a commitment to equality & diversity.

You should possess a HND, degree or post graduate qualification SCQF Level 8 or above or in the relevant professional equivalent specialist area; or significant relevant experience in the specialist area as an alternative to formal qualifications; or an appropriate vocational alternative.

The successful candidate should possess a formal teaching qualification or be willing to work towards a Teaching Qualification in Further Education (TQFE) and you should have evidence of Continuous Professional Development. You should possess good administration and organisational skills as well as highly developed, effective interpersonal skills.
