Swimming Coach – Hamilton College

Hamilton College is a non-denominational Christian Independent School for children and young people from the ages of 2-18. The school encompasses Nursery, Junior and Senior levels generating a truly ‘family’ atmosphere for the individual as they journey through the school.

The Role

  • Part time, approximately 15 - 20 hours per week, depending upon competitions.
  • Starting August 2024.

Hamilton College seeks to employ qualified and experienced Swimming Coach to support the delivery of swimming during PE and Sport lessons and coach in an expanding co-curricular programme. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to improving the learning and education for learners in both Junior and Senior School. This will be a sessional role and will also require the successful candidate to coach and officiate at swimming meets. The ability and/or experience to coach another of our main sports: Cross Country, Netball, Basketball or Athletics would be beneficial.

Duties

  • To produce a clear and coherent learn to swim programme for Junior 1 – 6 learners, and the related schemes of work.
  • To lead training sessions for advanced swimmers, liaising with clubs and performance pathways
  • To ensure an up-to-date knowledge of learners needs and to support these accordingly.
  • To track and monitor learners’ progress and produce concise written reports.
  • To lead in the implementation of swimming galas and House swimming competitions.
  • To support the learning and development of PE staff, academic teachers and coaches who deliver swimming.
  • To work alongside the Director of Sport to support the development of swimming.
  • To contribute and take part in appropriate departmental meetings and whole school meetings.
  • To work alongside the Director of Sport, and Marketing Department to promote sports events, taster days and open days.
  • A willingness to contribute to other areas within Physical Education and Sport when required.

Person Specification

  • Be reliable and able to work part-time hours.
  • Possess up to date qualifications and have experience of swimming specific regulations at all ages.
  • A wide experience of teaching and coaching swimming in both participation and performance.
  • Proven experience of developing a learn to swim programme.
  • Must be able to support other staff in coaching and officiating.
  • Be a role model for Hamilton College swimmers by being enthusiastic, highly motivated, and organised.
  • Confident, proactive with a helpful and flexible approach.
  • Ability to build excellent working relationships, work as part of a team and alone, with minimum supervision, maintaining a professional and enthusiastic approach.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all colleagues.
