Job Description

RESPONSIBLE TO: Interim Financial Controller/Deputy Director of Finance

RESPONSIBLE FOR: N/A

PURPOSE OF POST: The purpose of this role is to optimise and improve the University’s financial systems and processes to enable the University to make faster, better informed business decisions that rely on accurate and timely financial information.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

System support and troubleshooting

• Provide hands on, ongoing support for the existing finance system including month end/quarter end/year end close process and taking ownership of delivering the reporting required from the system.

• Diagnose and resolve technical problems as they arise individually or by working with IT staff/external consultants.

 

System Analysis and process improvement

• Analyse current finance systems and processes and provide recommendations for improvements or optimisations which cut down on the manual work undertaken by the team.

• Work with finance staff, IT staff and external consultants to improve the finance systems.

 

Testing & Implementation

• Oversee the testing, deployment, and implementation of the current finance system’s planned upgrade.

• Oversee the testing, deployment and implementation of new systems as and when they arise.

 

Requirements Gathering

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify and document system requirements and business processes.

 

Documentation

• Prepare detailed documentation of system designs, requirements, and procedures.

 

Project Management

• Assist in managing the timelines for finance system projects, ensuring that deliverables meet deadlines.

 

Collaboration

• Work closely with developers, project managers, and IT teams to ensure that the design and implementation of finance solutions align with business needs.

 

Person Specification

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Professional Memberships

Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

 

Knowledge

Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify system issues and propose effective solutions.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

Experience with different accounting systems.

 

Experience

Proven experience in systems/business analysis, IT support, or similar roles.

 

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge

Familiarity with project management frameworks.

Proficient in systems design, programming languages, databases, and software development methodologies.

 

Experience

Experience of management accounting/financial management/accounting concepts.
