In addition to teaching a full range of Mathematics courses the successful applicant will assist the Head of Department with the leadership of the Mathematics Department.

The department has thirteen members of staff and is exceptionally well resourced both in accommodation and ICT. In S1 and S2 the course is structured to ensure completion of Curriculum for Excellence levels 3 and 4. In S3 and S4 the syllabus is geared towards National 5. Most pupils take Mathematics but some do the Lifeskills Maths course. The majority of fifth year pupils study Higher Mathematics and most are presented in S5. A small number aim for presentation in S6. Three different options are offered for both Advanced Higher Mathematics and Advanced Higher Applied Mathematics. Good examination results are expected from the department and it is important that departmental staff set high but realistic targets for their pupils. Staff must be well prepared, energetic, enthusiastic and establish a good rapport with their pupils in order to maximise potential.

The successful candidate will:

Department: General Responsibilities

  • Employ a full range of learning and teaching methodologies to teach Mathematics across the range of S1 to S6

  • Coordinating pupil participation in individual UKMT competitions
  • Coordinating pupil participation in individual SMC competitions
