Do you want to have a challenging role doing something different?
Do you want to learn new skills that can be used in a variety of jobs?
Our RDS Firefighters come from diverse backgrounds and bring a variety of experiences to the role. A range of skills are required including being a team player, excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
You must be aged 18 years or over, have a good level of physical fitness, have the required standard of vision and colour perception. You will be required to be readily available to attend incidents and should therefore live or work around 5 – 8 minutes from the Fire Station you are applying for.
RDS Firefighters are called upon to attend the same wide range of emergency service as wholetime Firefighters, including fires, floods, road traffic accidents, chemical spills and more. They can also be called upon to work with wholetime Firefighters to promote fire safety messages, giving fire safety advice to schools and other organisations as well as carrying out free home fire risk assessments within their communities.
In return our RDS Firefighters are paid an annual retainer fee plus additional payments for every incident attended and time spent on all activity including training nights, community engagement and courses.
You will need to demonstrate that you have the potential to carry out this challenging role through a rigorous recruitment process, full details of which are documented within the attached information pack, with further supplementary information provided on our "Work with us" page on our website.
Applicants are requested to note the key dates for this recruitment process as detailed on the RDS Recruitment Information page.
There will be a requirement to attend and successfully complete an initial two-week training course, and so you should note possible dates from the link above and discuss your availability to attend these dates at your Interview.
Candidates should note that this post is subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order 2013. The successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and will be required to carry out regulated work with adults and children. Offers of employment will be contingent on a satisfactory PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check through Disclosure Scotland.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is an Equal Opportunities employer and encourage applications from all sectors of the community. In addition, we are committed to being a “Disability Confident Employer” and offer a guaranteed interview to any applicant who considers him / herself to be disabled subject to them meeting the minimum requirements for the post which includes the ability to successfully pass online psychometric tests and the practical selection tests specific to this recruitment process.
We are advertising for these roles on an on-going basis and so the “Closing Date” attached to this advert is not applicable. The station detail within the adverts will be refreshed to reflect current live vacancies within the Local Service Delivery Area that we are recruiting to.
