This much-loved charity helps 200,000 sick children and their families each year by buying specialist equipment, creating amazing hospital environments, enhancing staff training, funding research and specialist staff and even providing toys for the children. It is careful to just support and enhance what is already offered by the NHS.

The ARCHIE Foundation is an institution in the areas it serves: the North East, the Highlands and Tayside. That’s not to mention its work in East Africa where it is transforming surgical care for children, having provided two purpose built paediatric operating theatres in Kampala, Uganda.

It may be relatively small but it punches well above its weight and has plans to grow further.
