Job Title: Team Leader
Salary: £30,708 - £36,121
So why am I looking for Team Leaders?
Children 1st are developing a new and exciting way of supporting families in Aberdeen. We have a long history of working with children and families in the city. After a pause in 2018 we reviewed our purpose and role alongside children, families and partners. We have been building a new approach to help children affected by poor mental health and emotional distress. Children 1st along with partners share a determination to act upon the recommendations from The Independent Care Review and deliver The Promise to children and young people. We are also determined that the full incorporation of the UNCRC means that children will have their rights respected in all areas of their lives and will have a real say in the way they are supported. This new Children 1st service will sit at the heart of three local community hubs, providing early support to children and their families at the point when they need this to prevent more intensive supports being necessary.
What kind of person will make a great Team Leader for Children 1st?
I know exactly what we are looking for, someone who:
· has experience of keeping children safe in their own families
· is fiercely passionate about children’s rights
· thinks it’s a privilege to work with and on behalf of children and families and,
· is kind and will bring their whole selves to the job: heart and mind
What kind of leader will you be?
Knowing our ambition for children, you will be someone who is:
· resilient, skilled and knowledgeable who wants to transform systems as well as children’s lives
· big hearted and a courageous
· able to build great partnerships and to manage the tricky conversations
· able to understand, predict and adapt to the landscape
· bringing service experience
· a cool head and clear minded at times of pressure
· able to make decisions
· inspiring colleagues and teams to be even better
· an amazing ambassador for children and Children 1st
Above all else, the most important thing to me is that you are someone who will do the right thing for children and their families at every turn.
Why Children 1st?
Because we work to make children safer in their families and communities. Because we believe in providing support to whole families through strong trusting relationships. We don’t “do to” families, we respect that with the right support, families can usually resolve their own difficulties and overcome challenges.
We have local services in communities and national services that stretch across the whole of Scotland that make a lasting difference to children’s lives. Just as important as our community based supports is our work to amplify the voices of children, their parents and carers to ensure they have real influence and power to change how things are done.
I am proud to say we have always worked from a trauma informed basis. We believe it is the power of strong relationships with families that is key to stronger safer families and happier children. I know this takes hard work and means not shying away from what’s difficult but also being ever hopeful and believing in the power of repair and recovery.
We are relentlessly focussed on quality and we are constantly listening and looking to improve. You will find this role a challenge and you will be stretched. You will also find we are a kind and incredibly supportive organisation.
We have a really clear set of strategic priorities that we created together in 2018 and we are making great progress on these. We operate as one team. We can’t be doing with silo working - we share problems and find solutions together.
Whilst there will be many demands on you , I will expect that you will never lose sight of the need to protect children. You will make sure that we are compassionate in our response and accountable to children, families and stakeholders. I expect that you demonstrate an unwavering focus on the needs of children to stay with their family network and to work to prevent key attachments being ruptured. I expect nothing less of myself and our team.
You will be based in one of the local community hubs and will have travel to connect with other parts of the organisation once Scottish Guidelines permit this and it is safe for you and colleagues.
Wellbeing Your wellbeing is important to us, we will support you to work in a way that gets the job done but maintains a healthy work life balance.
Salary, Conditions, Pension
We will offer you a competitive salary, generous annual leave entitlement (40 days inclusive of 9 public holidays), flexible working opportunities and a contributory pension scheme.
Closing date: Friday 2nd October 2020 at noon. It is anticipated that interviews will be held week commencing 5th October or 12th October 2020.
