Job Description

Personal Assistant (PA) / Companion Wanted – Galashiels

Are you a friendly, caring and reliable person who enjoys making a real difference to someone’s life? Would you like a rewarding role where you can support someone to live life to the fullest, enjoy new experiences and maintain their independence?

I’m a friendly, chatty 30-year-old gentleman living in Galashiels, and I’m looking for a Personal Assistant (PA) to join my support team. I have a mild learning and physical disability and use a wheelchair, but I enjoy getting out and about, having fun and making the most of life.

I’m looking for someone who can support me with my daily personal care routine at home, as well as accompany me on outings, days away and weekends away. You’ll help me stay safe, comfortable and confident, while encouraging me to do as much as possible for myself.

This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days need to be the same! There is flexibility to share the hours between PAs or build up to full-time hours for someone who is looking for a more substantial role.

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Supporting me with my morning routine, including getting up, washing or showering, drying and dressing.

  • Assisting with toileting and personal care in a respectful and dignified way.

  • Preparing and serving meals throughout the day.

  • Supporting me with my evening and bedtime routine.

  • Accompanying me to appointments and helping me access activities in the community.

  • Enjoying days out together and providing support during weekends away when required.

  • Driving my mobility car to help me get out and about.

  • Encouraging my independence while providing the support I need to feel safe and confident.

  •

Person Specification

  • Kind and caring with a friendly personality and a good sense of humour.

  • Patient and understanding, with a positive and encouraging approach.

  • Reliable and trustworthy, someone I can depend on.

  • A good communicator who is practical and happy to get involved.

  • A confident driver with a full driving licence (essential).

  • Experienced in moving and handling, or willing to undertake training.

Previous experience is helpful, but having the right attitude, a caring nature and a willingness to learn are just as important.

Hours & Flexibility

  • A variety of hours are available across morning, lunchtime, teatime and bedtime visits.

  • Additional hours may be available for activities, days out and weekends away.

  • Flexible blocks of hours can be discussed with suitable applicants.

  • The hours can be shared between PAs, or there may be an opportunity to build up to full-time hours.

  •

Terms

  • Hourly rate starting from £15.00, depending on the agreed arrangements.

  • 5.6 weeks’ annual leave per year, pro rata.

  • Expenses paid when accompanying me on outings.

  • A varied role with opportunities to support me at home and enjoy activities and experiences in the community.

  • The opportunity to build a positive working relationship and make a genuine difference to my everyday life.

  •

Requirements: PVG membership and references are required.

If you’re a friendly, dependable person who would enjoy helping me live life to the fullest, supporting my independence and sharing in days out and new experiences, I’d love to hear from you!
