The Advanced Gym Instructor is overall responsible for the daily operation of the gym, delivering personal training, gym inductions and group exercise.

 

Duties also include providing a comprehensive, one to one personal fitness assessment and personal training programmes. The purpose of the programmes is to assist clients in setting and achieving realistic fitness goals bases on each client’s needs. Ultimately, the client should be able to individually develop and follow goals based on the personal trainer’s knowledge.

 

The Instructors may be expected to deliver some group fitness classes.

 

Advanced Gym Instructors are expected to work independently and adhere to the guidelines of their certifying organisation, as well as all company policies and procedures.

 

The role of the gym instructor at Fife Sports and Leisure Trust demands a commitment to a predetermined shift pattern consisting of dayshifts, backshifts and weekend work. This structured shift pattern is crucial to ensuring consistent coverage of the gym floor during peak times and maintaining the high standards of service that we strive to deliver. Some roles may attract extra non-core payments due to non-standard shift patterns. These details can be discussed at interview.

 

Requirements

A degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant discipline

 

SVQ Level 3 advanced gym instructor award

 

Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.

 

Responsibilities

1. Responsible for staff rotas and cover

2. Deliver personal training

3. Responsible for maintenance of the gym and reporting of faults

4. Responsible for cleaning the gym and carrying out cleanliness checks

5. Providing and creating training programmes

6. Carrying out gym inductions for new customers and new gym team members

7. Assisting with the development of the gym environment to increase customer       satisfaction and retention

8. Administration and reporting duties

9. Any other gym or centre related tasks as required

 

The Individual

Substantial or previous experience working within the leisure environment

Excellent Customer Service

Knowledge and experience of developing exercises suitable for individual and group requirements.

Excellent oral communication skills.

Ability to be diplomatic and skilled in dealing with customers and colleagues

Honesty and reliability

Excellent organisational skills.

An understanding of confidentiality issues and the use of discretion.

Routine maintenance of fitness equipment and the gym environment

Be aware of risks to individuals in exercising

Ability to provide regular and effective service.

Physical fitness to ensure the class/course content can be delivered in the appropriate way and demonstrations of core skills can be undertaken to ensure class participants have a full understanding of the activity

Commitment to undertake continuous personal development as required by both FSLT and any appropriate professional body.
