The Employer is the son of an elderly married couple. The post holder will be employed to support both individuals, however separate funding arrangements are in place and two contracts of employment will be issued.

Term:                               Permanent, subject to a three-month trial period

 

Working Hours:               Morning: 1 hour, Lunch: 30 minutes, Tea Time: 30 minutes, Bedtime: 1 hour. Saturday and Sunday (alternative weekends available)

 

Hours are to support both individuals at the same visit times. Assistants also required to provide cover for other team members due to holidays and sickness. Must be flexible. Working hours to be discussed and agreed with the employer.

 

  • Rate of Pay

 

£13.45 per hour

             

  • Job Purpose and Way of Working

 

The aim of this role is to provide support to an elderly married couple within their own home, enabling them to maintain their independence and safety.

The lady requires support with mobility and personal care. She uses a commode within the bedroom and requires assistance with personal hygiene, meal preparation and general daily living tasks.

The gentleman has Parkinsons disease and is at risk of falls if left unsupported. He requires assistance with personal care, including washing and dressing, as well as support with meal preparation and medication management. He speaks very softly and requires a patient and understanding approach to communication.

 

Duties will include:

 

  • Supporting both individuals with personal care.
  • Assisting with meal preparation and ensuring nutritional needs are met.
  • Supporting safe mobility within the home.
  • Emptying and cleaning the commode as required.
  • Supporting with medication management (gentleman)
  • Monitoring wellbeing and responding to any changes in condition.
  • Providing reassurance and supervision to reduce the risk of falls.
  • Communicating clearly and patiently.
  • Supporting a safe, clean and comfortable environment.

 

 

Any questions concerning these duties may be asked at the interview stage. Full training will be provided for all successful applicants.

 

·               Supervision and reporting relationships

 

Personal Assistants will be directed by and accountable to the employer. It is essential to ask the employer what the support needs are, observing her directions and requests. It is also necessary to respect the family privacy and to always maintain confidentiality.

 

·      Skills, abilities and desirable personal qualities

 

Applicants must be reliable, trustworthy and punctual and must be able to work with the lady on a one-to-one basis, also be able to work as part of a team

 

·      Training

 

Full training will be provided and paid for by the employer. This will include
