The Employer


The Employer is the son of the lady who requires support.


• Job Identity


Job Title: Part time, Personal Assistant


Location of Job: Portknockie


Term: Permanent, subject to a three month trial period


Working Hours: 30 Mins AM (8am) and 30 Mins LT (12pm) 7 days.

Shift Pattern: Mon AM, Wed LT, Fri AM + LT, Sat AM + LT, every 2nd Sun AM + LT


Assistants also required to provide cover for other team members due to holidays and sickness. Must be flexible. Working hours to be discussed and agreed with the employer.


• Rate of Pay


£16.88 per hour

   

• Job Purpose and Way of Working


The aim of the job is to provide assistance to a very independent sociable lady who likes to do as much as she can for herself. She has poor mobility and balance due to having osteoporosis and requires to use her walker for support around her bungalow and when outside. 

 

AM - Support to take her medication and eye drops. Carers to ask if she has had her breakfast/drink and to prompt if she has forgotten.

LT - Support to take medication and eye drops. Meal/drink prompting and support to heat up in microwave; with he lady to be as independent as possible with making her meals/drinks. 



Duties will include:


• Supporting the lady with her medication.

• Support with prompting and heating meals.

• Support with encouraging fluids and nutrition.



Any questions concerning these duties may be asked at the interview stage. Full training will be provided for all successful applicants.


• Supervision and reporting relationships


Personal Assistants will be directed by and accountable to the employer. It is necessary to ask the employer what the support needs are, observing her directions and requests. It is also necessary to respect the family privacy and to maintain confidentiality at all times.


• Skills, abilities and desirable personal qualities

 

Applicants must be reliable, trustworthy and punctual and must be able to work with the lady on a one to one basis, also be able to work as part of a team


• Training


Mandatory training will be provided. This includes: Adult/Child support & protection. Any other training needs will be discussed and determined by the Employer and social worker.


• References and the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme


This post is considered to be a ‘Regulated Role’ under the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020. Under the Act it is a legal requirement for an individual undertaking a regulated role with children or protected adults to be a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.   

Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check prior to any formal offer of employment being made by the employer.


A reference from 2 employers, one of which should be current or recent is required. Employees will be required to register with the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) scheme. It is the Personal Assistant’s legal responsibility to join the PVG scheme if they want to work or continue in a ‘regulated role’ The fee for the disclosure will be reimbursed to the personal assistant in their first month’s wage.
