Help us create a safe, welcoming place where people can thrive.

At The Action Group, we believe everyone deserves to live life to the fullest. Our offices are a busy and welcoming hub where staff, people we support, families and visitors come together every day.

We're looking for a reliable and practical Part Time Caretaker to help keep our building safe, secure and well maintained. This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same. From carrying out minor repairs and preparing rooms for meetings to ensuring the building is safe and compliant, you'll play an important part in supporting our organisation and the people who use our facilities.

If you enjoy practical work, take pride in maintaining high standards and like solving problems, we'd love to hear from you.

About this role

What you'll be doing

As our Caretaker, you'll:

  • Open and close the building each day and help keep it secure.
  • Carry out routine inspections of the building and surrounding grounds.
  • Complete minor repairs and basic maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure communal areas are clean, safe and welcoming.
  • Prepare meeting rooms and activity spaces for staff and visitors.
  • Carry out routine health and safety and fire safety checks.
  • Report maintenance issues and liaise with contractors when specialist repairs are needed.
  • Help maintain stock of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
  • Keep accurate maintenance and inspection records.
  • Support a positive experience for everyone who visits our building.

About you

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has experience in a caretaking, facilities or maintenance role.
  • Is confident carrying out practical DIY and minor repairs.
  • Understands the importance of health and safety.
  • Can work independently and manage their own workload.
  • Has good communication and organisational skills.
  • Is reliable, trustworthy and takes pride in their work.
  • Enjoys helping others and contributing to a welcoming environment.

Experience of working within the voluntary or community sector, knowledge of COSHH or relevant training such as First Aid, Fire Warden or Manual Handling would be an advantage, but aren't essential.

Why join The Action Group?

At The Action Group, you'll be joining a friendly, supportive organisation that's committed to inclusion, respect and making a positive difference every day.

We offer:

  • A supportive and welcoming team.
  • Generous annual leave entitlement.
  • Employer pension contribution.
  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities.
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme.
  • The opportunity to play an important role in supporting an organisation that changes lives.

Additional Information

  • Hours: 20 hours per week, worked across five days.
  • Location: The Prentice Centre, Edinburgh.
  • Disclosure: This post is subject to a Standard Disclosure check.

If you're practical, dependable and enjoy keeping buildings safe, tidy and running smoothly, we'd love to receive your application.
