We’re looking for a kind-hearted, reliable, and patient Personal Support Assistant to provide one-to-one care for a lovely individual who is rebuilding their life after a stroke. This person-centred role involves supporting someone living with a mix of health needs including right-sided weakness, epilepsy, aphasia, and emotional challenges such as anxiety and depression.

You’ll be part of a supportive team helping to create a calm, respectful, and safe environment while building a meaningful connection and making each day a little brighter.

What You’ll Be Doing

Providing personal care including washing, dressing, grooming, and toileting with sensitivity and respect

Assisting with simple, nutritious meal preparation

Monitoring health concerns such as epilepsy, blood sugar levels, and fall risks

Offering companionship, emotional support, and reassurance during moments of agitation or distress

Communicating clearly and simply to support someone with aphasia and memory or comprehension challenges

Encouraging engagement in suitable activities to support wellbeing and cognitive stimulation

Maintaining a calm, consistent care approach to ensure continuity

Working alongside other support staff and professionals to ensure the best outcomes

Keeping accurate care records if required

What You Bring

Experience supporting people with complex physical, neurological, or cognitive needs

Understanding of epilepsy, fall prevention, and glucose intolerance

A calm, respectful, and patient attitude

Ability to manage challenging behaviour in a supportive way

Excellent communication skills with a focus on active listening and clear, simple language

A strong commitment to maintaining dignity, privacy, and individual choice

Flexibility and reliability with a person-centred mindset

Desirable (but not essential)

Experience with aphasia, stroke patients, or similar conditions

Basic knowledge of nutrition and meal planning

First Aid and Moving and Handling training

Training will be provided for the right candidate

Additional Information

Two references are required, one of which must be from a current or former employer

A new PVG enhanced disclosure will be required before appointment (the cost will be covered by the employer)

This role includes a six-month trial period
