We are recruiting a team of Support Workers to join our team at Bespoke Support in Dumfries.

Looking for a local job in a friendly and supportive environment? As a Support Worker you will provide support to people in their own homes, assisting them to remain independent.

You will be traveling between clients so a Full Driving Licence and access to your own vehicle which you can insure for business use is desirable.

We have full time and part time positions available.

Job Purpose

  • To support people in a way that is: respectful, promotes independence and enables the individuals you support to realise their own potential.
  • This may also include supporting individuals in accessing the community, in their own homes or in any setting their needs and choices may require.
  • As a Support Worker you will receive blended training to enhance the skills you may already possess and shadowing to ensure you are integrated into your new role appropriately.

Job Responsibilities include:

- Provide assistance with daily household tasks such as cleaning, laundry, and organising

- Prepare meals and assist with meal planning

- Assist with personal care tasks, such as bathing and dressing

- Provide companionship and engage in conversation with the client

- Monitor and assist with medication reminders

Experience:

- Previous experience as a home assistant or in a similar role is preferred but not essential

- Knowledge of basic household cleaning techniques and practices

- Familiarity with meal preparation and cooking

- Ability to follow instructions and work independently

- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage in conversation

- Compassionate and caring attitude towards clients

- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect client privacy

Key Learning Areas:

  1. Undertaking foundation training prior to commencement of role and engage with ongoing training on a regular basis as per programme.
  2. Develop and demonstrate communication skills. Communicating with the individuals you support using appropriate communication methods, including tact, empathy, and diplomacy.
  3. Develop Knowledge and skills in providing individual care. This may include personal care and assisting with bathing to maintain a high standard of hygiene where the individual requires this. This may also include people moving techniques, using hoists, and repositioning individuals as required.
  4. Learn about individual support plans. Participating in the development and implementation of individuals' support plans to encourage the people you support to take an active role in all aspects of daily living and ensure the appropriate level of individual care and support is provided.
  5. Under supervision learn how to promote a healthy and safe environment: Assist individuals with household activities such as cooking, mealtimes, laundering and cleaning to promote a healthy environment for the people you support and the promotion of independent living.
  6. Learn about the importance of Record Keeping. Recording and completing any appropriate documentation to ensure that individuals' records, observations, or research results are accurate and informative.
  7. Ensuring all policies and procedures applicable to the service and the company are followed to comply with regulations and good practice.
  8. Undertaking all training during the programme (including statutory) relevant to the needs of the service and the people you support and according to relevant legislation to professionally develop and gain skills beneficial to the individuals.
