About the Role:

Our Shettleston service is looking for a Support Worker to join the team on a fixed-term basis for 18 months. This role will operate on a 4-week rolling rota, working 35 hours per week, including early shifts, backs shift and select weekend work. Our Shettleston service is located in East end of Glasgow with referrals coming via the Glasgow Social Work Continuing Care Team at Glasgow City Council. The Support Worker will support 8 young people between the ages of 16-25 in their own flats, who come from a care background and have often experienced complex trauma through their lives. As a young person service there is a significant importance of having positive relationships with the young people and the benefits that brings to them.

Main Responsibilities:

As a Support Worker, you will provide practical and emotional support, empowering the people we support to achieve their personal outcomes and live as independently as possible. We work in a trauma-informed manner and recognise each person as an individual, with their own strengths, qualities and support needs.

The Support Worker will:

  • Work as part of a team providing safe, secure and supported accommodation for young people who have a background in care.
  • Provide a variety of person-centred supports, including promoting independent living skills such as cooking, cleaning and budgeting, offering emotional support during difficult times, and encouraging positive wellbeing and resilience.
  • Support, review, monitor and evaluate outcomes through our case management system to achieve positive, person-centred outcomes in line with organisational, statutory and legislative requirements.
  • Coordinate and deliver key working sessions, support planning, reviews and other internal and external meetings in conjunction with each person's support plan.
  • Provide general advocacy, guidance and advice to the people we support, including assistance to help them meet the conditions of their occupancy agreements.
  • Maintain and update all recording systems, documentation and support plans accurately and within required timescales, ensuring compliance with relevant policies, procedures and practice guidelines, including occupancy agreements.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with the people we support, recognising the impact of trauma and adapting support to meet individual needs and circumstances.

About You:

  • To join us, you need to have a genuine passion for helping people.
  • Ideally, possess 1 year of experience of working with vulnerable people and challenging behaviour which can be from personal, voluntary and/or professional experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to undertake care practice in accordance with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) code of practice, National Care Standards, Scottish Commission for the Regulation of Care and the Associations policies and procedures.
  • Ability to relate empathetically to people and recognise their right to choice and independence.
  • Ability to work flexibly and as a lone worker.
  • Able to use Microsoft or equivalent applications competently.
  • Ideally, hold and SVQ level 2 or above and be willing to work towards an SVQ 3.
