Support When It Counts – Become a Support Pracitioner with Carr Gomm.

Looking for a role where your compassion can shine?

At Carr Gomm, we’re offering a rewarding opportunity to join our Home Respite team in Sutherland as a Part-Time Support Practitioner. You’ll play a key role in helping unpaid carers take essential breaks while providing meaningful support to the people they care for — all in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes.

This is an opportunity to support unpaid carers by offering them time to rest and recharge — all while making a meaningful difference in someone else’s day.

What we are looking for

A good support work is responsive to individual needs, and your role will evolve to ensure the best outcomes for those you support. You will always have access to a manager and the wider team to discuss all aspects of the support you are providing. We are looking for someone who is:

  • Warm & honest
  • Able to build trust and a safe environment
  • Resilient and Patient; able to handle challenges and stay positive through them
  • Empathetic and compassionate; always putting people first
  • Motivated & respectful
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Kind, reliable, and community-minded
  • Open to learning — no prior experience needed

About the Role

  • Provide 1–5 hour support visits in people’s homes to enable carer respite
  • Build meaningful relationships with individuals and their families
  • Work flexibly — shifts can fit around your other commitments
  • Deliver high-quality care, recognised by strong Care Inspectorate ratings

Whether you're seeking a few hours a week or more regular work, we’re happy to discuss what works for you.

Whilst experience is always welcome, full training (including SVQ qualifications) is provided alongside regular support and supervision from your Service Manager. The right values and motivation are essential; honesty, respect, empathy, and compassion are key skills that are required in people who join our teams.

Driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred, due to rural coverage

What We Offer

You’ll be part of a supportive team that values your contributions and helps you grow in your role. Our benefits include:

  • Enhanced mileage payment of 45p per mile
  • 35 days holiday per year, increasing to 40 days with length of service.
  • £200 Recommend a Friend Scheme (T&Cs apply)
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, and sick leave
  • A Defined Contribution pension scheme, with incremental employer contributions
  • Free Blue Light Card (giving access to thousands of discounts and promotions)
  • Access to the Carr Gomm App: which includes free physiotherapy, health coaching and counselling.
  • Membership of a credit union
  • Cycle to work scheme; and more!

Additionally, we support our permanent staff to achieve their SVQ in Health and Social Care. A great opportunity to develop your skills and advance your career with Carr Gomm.
