Young Carers are young people aged between 8 and 18 who help to look after a parent, sibling or grandparent who has a disability, illness, a mental health issue, addiction, or frailty. Providing unpaid care for someone can be rewarding, but it can also be a huge responsibility that can affect other areas of a person’s life, such as, education, family life and their own health and wellbeing.
With the Carers (Scotland) Act fully embedded into practice and the incorporation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into Scots Law imminent, supporting the voices of young carers has never been so important.
As a young carer support & involvement worker, you will:
- Support young carers to increasingly influence the information, support and involvement activities provided by the Young Carers Project to allow them to achieve their identified personal outcomes.
- Support an increasing number of young carers to gain the confidence to actively participate in raising awareness about the needs of young carers.
- Increase the number of opportunities for young carers to share their experiences and give their feedback on being a young carer to allow them to influence local and national decision making.
- Increase the understanding, knowledge, and confidence of professionals working with children and young people to identify young carers and refer to the Young Carers Project for support.
This role requires a UK drivers licence and PVG Scheme membership.
