Could you be a match for our Thistle service?

Do you have special skills and interests such as music, art, cooking, or crafting that could enhance the lives of autistic people?

Thistle service is a day service located in Maryhill, Glasgow. Currently supporting 8 autistic people to live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. We support people to access the service by providing transport and use the service as a base for accessing the local community.

The team around the supported individuals is supported through regular coaching, training and collaboration. Staff supporting in this service should have good observation skills and be resilient in nature.

This service offers initially a set working pattern although flexibility within the role is desired across the week. Each supported person has a personalised programme of support incorporating consistency and structure specific to their needs.

The list of interests and activities we support individuals to engage with or access is quite varied. Our supported individuals enjoy sensory play, watching films, pampering sessions, local canal walks, swimming, and accessing the community for discos and local restaurants.

As an Autism Practitioner, experience of working within social care is desirable but not essential as we are seeking to appoint people who are willing to learn and develop into the role and who share our values : Collaboration; Compassion; Change Makers; Contribution. We offer outstanding training and we are continuously improving to ensure all our Autism Practitioners are supported and have the skills to deliver a quality service. This post is also a good opportunity for those with a generic support worker experience to specialise.

Full UK driving license and ability to drive a manual vehicle is essential for this role.

At Scottish Autism we acknowledge the specialist support our staff provide to autistic individuals, therefore those doing support work are known as Autism Practitioners.

Autism Practitioners will work as a team to:

· Develop personalised support plans for the supported individuals in Thistle

· Build positive relationships with the supported individuals, their families,

healthcare professionals and social care managers to achieve the best

outcomes for the people we support.

On a day-to-day basis, the Autism Practitioner role involves

· Communicating with supported individuals in their preferred communication styles and methods, enabling them to make choices and give input to the shape of their service

· Supporting with personal care and daily living tasks,

· Supporting the individuals to access and engage in their local community and to take part in activities of their choice during outings using the Thistle centre as a base,

· Recording any relevant information about the day-to-day support of our individuals on our digital care planning system

· Supporting with daily or as required medication

· Risk assessing activities and outings to provide safe & fun experiences for supported people.

As part of your role, you may be required to support across the varied services in West of Scotland and undertake shift work, including weekends, evenings so flexibility towards working hours is key.

“I love my workplace; the organisation values are displayed on the walls which promotes a positive working environment.” Staff member.

Scottish Autism offers you:

Staff wellbeing is priority, and we strive to ensure all colleagues feel valued and supported at work. We provide an excellent benefits package which includes a competitive salary and a personalised learning pathway for all. We keep it simple with 3 pay points. You progress at your pace as you develop. We benchmark regularly to ensure the rates are competitive.

· 32 days holiday pro rata (which increases with your length of service)

· Sector leading training from day one, including fully funded support to complete your necessary SVQ

  • Non-contributory life assurance scheme
  • Workplace Pension (Employer matched up to 9%)
  • Discount platform
