About the role:

Reporting directly to the Director of Finance and Business Services, you will provide leadership, and operational management to the wider organisation, when necessary, to ensure Health and Safety compliance is embedded within the organisation. You will develop and implement quality Health and Safety systems within Scottish Autism, and ensure, and monitor compliance with those and relevant legislation.

In this role you will;

  • Develop and implement shared policies and procedures across the organisation on all aspects of Health and Safety
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation on behalf of Scottish Autism
  • Monitor changes to legislation and good practice/industry guidance and provide advice on the practical application for Scottish Autism’s activities
  • Ensure reporting to regulatory bodies is adhered to in a timely manner and in line with current legislative requirements
  • Implement, monitor and advise on strategic Health & Safety Management systems within the organisation.
  • Develop, co-ordinate, implement and monitor safe working systems and processes
  • Manage, develop and implement continual improvement practices and ensure that areas of responsibility operate in a manner that aligns with statutory guidance and Scottish Autisms policies, procedures and values
  • Lead and report on investigations of serious Health & Safety incidents, dangerous occurrences and work-related ill health.

About you:

The successful candidate will be a:

· Chartered (CMIOSH) Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (Essential)

· ISO 45001 Lead auditor qualification or similar (Desirable)

· Qualified to undertake Fire Risk Assessments and DSE Assessments (Desirable)

· Qualified to provide moving and handling training including hoists (Desirable)

· RoSPA accredited trainer for advanced drivers (Desirable)

You will have:

  • Strong personal organisation skills including ability to manage a diverse and demanding workload within a constantly changing environment.
  • The ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and meet performance targets.
  • Demonstrated the willingness to take ownership of problems to ensure resolution.
  • Strong influencing and motivating skills and the confidence to deal effectively and professionally with a variety of people at all levels.

The role will require you to be adaptable and able to work flexibly including from time to time, evenings and weekends.
