Job Details
Would you like to make a difference to a sociable lady’s life, who lives in her own home with support from staff in Leith, Edinburgh?
We are looking for female* Personal Assistants. We have full-time and part-time positions available. This person requires 24/7 direct support and sleepovers are a part of this service. A full UK driving license is preferable as this lady owns a car.
*Exemption under Equality Act 2010
About this Opportunity
I am a 30-year-old woman, who loves living an independent life in Edinburgh. I really enjoy getting out and about, as well as relaxing in my own flat.
It is important to me that I can build a good working and trusting relationship with the people who support me. I love to have a laugh and fun throughout the day. I am a sensitive person, and it is important to me that I can talk to my staff about anything, and they take time to listen, without judgement.
My Christian faith is a key part of my life and I love attending my church on a weekly basis as well as groups during the week. You don’t need to be religious, but you will be required to take me to events. I really value spending time in church on my own but having support nearby if I need it. I also love listening to Christian music in my home.
I first moved to Edinburgh in 2012 to study Psychology and Sociology and gained an honors degree. I have a passion for inclusion, and I am involved in organizations which promote inclusion and independence for people with disabilities. This may involve traveling to a conference and staying overnight,
I love going out and spending time with my friends. Some of my favorite activities include shopping, going for nice walks, going to the cinema, or days out. Edinburgh is such a beautiful place, that even just spending time in the city, and meeting friends for a meal brings me joy. I also may travel to other places to visit friends. This is usually a mixture of day trips, and occasionally staying away overnight. When I am with my friends, I really value my space, with my support worker in the background if I need them.
In everyday life I require support with all tasks, including personal care ie toileting, showering, teeth brushing, eating meals as well as someone cooking and doing housework for me. During the night I usually require a drink which takes around 5 minutes. Only very occasionally I struggle to get to sleep, and this can cause me to become a bit distressed and I need support staff to be calm and reassuring to help me relax and get to sleep. This doesn’t happen often, maybe three times a year.
I have my own mobility car so a driver would be advantageous but not essential. I am a full-time wheelchair user, using mostly my electric wheelchair, however I regularly use my manual wheelchair to attend my church. I require someone to push this.
I love all aspects of my life in Edinburgh but require 24-hour support to do this.
