Gillian joined South Ayrshire Council as a Human Resources Officer in April 2010 after applying through myjobscotland.

"I found it a very logical and time efficient way to apply for a position," she says.

One of her key projects involves reviewing, analysing and amending the induction processes for new employees.

"We need to ensure that all new employees starting work within the council receive a full induction within their directorate, service, their particular job role and the wider council," Gillian explains. "This is important because it gives them an understanding of how their role contributes to the overall performance of the council."

She is also involved in compiling and delivering a range of training initiatives - including a Management Development programme for different levels of managers - and training on HR matters such as absence management and equality and diversity.

"I get a lot out of helping people to learn and develop," Gillian continues. "In my role there can often be different demands placed on you as needs change within the council, but I enjoy and embrace all the challenges."

Before joining South Ayrshire Council, Gillian worked in HR consultancy, including two and a half years as an HR Advisor for Hansel Alliance, a not for profit organisation based in Ayrshire. She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management from Strathclyde University and a BA Honours degree in European Business Studies from Glasgow Caledonian University.
