Lorraine is an electrical engineering technician within Fife Council's Property Services. The job involves meeting clients, designing electrical jobs within all properties in Fife and then overseeing jobs when they go on site.

"The role allows me to use all the skills I've learned on the job when designing new installations," Lorraine explains. "Having that practical experience on the tools definitely helps with this job. It gives you a better understanding of how to do things and why something may not be possible or as easy as it first looks."

Lorraine joined Fife Council's Modern Apprentice Scheme straight from sixth year at Balwearie High School in Kirkcaldy. After completing a four-year electrical apprenticeship, consisting of on site experience and block release to college, she worked as a qualified electrician for a further 18 months before applying for the technician's job.

Lorraine is currently in her fourth year of a BSc in Building Services Engineering at Glasgow Caledonian University, which is being funded by Fife Council.
