Early years: Lead Practitioner (manager) – Opportunity
· Great opportunity to run an established and thriving early year setting
· Open ended contract, starting ASAP
· Based on experience £25,000 - £30,000 pro-rata
· 24 - 27 hours per week, for 52 weeks per year
· Includes pension contributions / NI and 5.6 weeks holiday pay.
· Post is paid 52 weeks per year and maintained across periods where the playgroup is closed for term times.
· Working Pattern: Hours are split between those worked during the playgroup term (38 weeks per year) and those out with term (the remaining 14 weeks, including 5.6 weeks holiday pay).
o In session working hours:
4.5 hours between 8.00am to 12.30, 4 mornings per week across Monday to Friday (18 total hours p/w – to be discussed at interview).
o Administrative working hours:
6 to 9 hours p/w – (worked flexibly)
Total paid hours per week: between 24 to 27 (flexible depending on candidate). This is paid for the full 52 weeks, paid equally per month

Cramond Playgroup is currently seeking a Playgroup Leader (Manager) to lead our much-loved, long-established community playgroup. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Early Years professional to lead a dedicated staff team, support the wellbeing and development of children aged 2-5, and build on the excellent reputation our playgroup enjoys.
Run by a committed team of staff and a supportive parent-led committee, Cramond Playgroup is a registered charity based in the well-equipped Cramond Kirk halls. We provide a fun, caring, and stimulating environment where children can flourish.
The Playgroup Leader will:
· Provide clear and inspiring leadership to the staff team.
· Deliver and oversee the Curriculum for Excellence to ensure high-quality early years provision.
· Monitor and support children’s wellbeing, learning, and development.
· Act as the primary contact between staff, parents, regulatory bodies, and the voluntary management committee.
· Take responsibility for compliance with Care Inspectorate standards, health and safety, and playgroup policies.
· Play a key role in shaping the future direction of the playgroup, building on its strong foundations and community spirit.
We are looking for a qualified Early Years professional who:
· Holds, or is working towards, a BA in Childhood Practice (or equivalent), with the commitment to achieving qualifications required for SSSC registration within a conditioned timeframe.
· Has proven experience in a childcare setting, with leadership or management experience highly desirable.
· Demonstrates excellent administrative, organisational, and IT skills.
· Has outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with staff, parents, and children.
· Shows warmth, professionalism, and enthusiasm for early years care.
· Brings creativity, initiative, and vision to develop both indoor and outdoor learning opportunities.
