Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 10 and above (currently £30,030 per annum / £16.50 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Job purpose/about the role

Educational Psychologists work collaboratively within and beyond the psychological service to provide stakeholders with support through a Consultation model of service delivery. Educational Psychologists are required to carry out duties of the post as directed by the Principal Educational Psychologist, Depute Principal EP’s, or nominated officer of the council and should work within the aims, guidelines, and standards for registration requirements from the Scottish Government, HCPC and the British Psychological Society.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

  • Honours degree in Psychology or equivalent, recognised by the British Psychological Society.
  • Post-graduate professional training in educational psychology (or undergoing such training), recognised by the British Psychological Society.
  • Currently a Health and Care Professions Council Registered Practitioner Psychologist or eligible for Registered status after a satisfactory probationary period.
  • PVG Membership for Regulated work with Children and/or Protected Adults or willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

  • The area of Educational Psychology and knowledge of relevant legislation, council education policy and best practice.  
  • The core functions of consultation, assessment, intervention, training, and research.  
  • Delivering required results within a collaborative, customer focused organisation  
  • Building relationships and working in partnership with internal and external partners.  
  • Effective communication and organisational skills, meeting deadlines and working towards achievement of local and national priorities.  
  • Creative approaches to capturing the voices of learners and their families and delivering meaningful feedback to all stakeholders
