Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £31,505 per annum / £17.31 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Job purpose/about the role

  • Carry out internal minor building repairs and ground maintenance within the Children’s Residential and Youth Service.
  • Carry out and/or support and educate Care Experienced young people living in their own tenancies with minor internal building repairs/projects.
  • Support and educate young people who reside in the Children’s homes on how to safely carry out basic minor repairs and ground maintenance
  • Purchase tools and materials as required, ensuring best value and that machinery, equipment and materials are accounted for in accordance with Financial Regulations/Procedures
  • Adhere to Aberdeen City Council’s Values, Policies and Procedures.
  • Have an awareness of the circumstances which lead to children being unable to be cared for in their families of origin.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum and work towards any necessary certificates
as appropriate to the role:

  • Current driving licence
  • PVG certificate

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

  • A flexible approach to work
  • Good verbal communication and listening skills
  • An ability to undertake a range of practical tasks around DIY, assembling, repair,
    decorating, tenancy preparation
  • Demonstrate work skills with and for young people
  • An ability to use initiative in the completion day-to-day duties
  • An ability to relate and work well with people of all ages
  • An ability to recognise and understand risk and effectively approach risk in line with the Service’s guidance.
  • An ability to identify possible hazards and seek advice and guidance from;
    management, property inspectors, health and safety advisors and grounds
    maintenance officer.
