Roles that require PVG Membership 

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membershipThis applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above(Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 10 and above (currently £30,030 per annum / £16.50 per hour) 

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Paste job purpose/about the role

As a Modern Apprentice (Customer Care Officer), you will gain valuable workplace experience while working towards a recognised qualification as part of Aberdeen City Council's Modern Apprenticeship Programme. Working across our Customer Contact Centre and Service Centre environments, you will support citizens to access council services through face-to-face, telephone and digital channels, developing your customer service, communication and digital skills while gaining experience across a range of frontline service areas. Supported by experienced colleagues and Team Leaders, you will receive structured training and development while contributing to the delivery of high-quality services to the people of Aberdeen. This is an excellent opportunity to build workplace experience, develop transferable skills and gain a recognised qualification within a dynamic customer service environment, while being part of a team dedicated to making a positive difference for our citizens. The Modern Apprentice role forms part of the Council's redesigned service structure and provides a valuable introduction to local government and customer service careers.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

  • Good written/numerical and/or Customer Service skills gained through either
  • Standard Grades/National 4 qualification(s) or
  • Relevant work experience

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Self-motivated team player
  • Ability to grasp new topics quickly on a self-taught basis
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including non-verbal, verbal and written forms of communication
  • Ability to use ICT systems and programmes, such as Microsoft Office
