Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

job purpose/about the role

To provide full professional Quantity Surveying services and
advice to elected Members, other Council officers, external
consultants and external customers. The service is provided in
order to implement the decision of the elected members of
Aberdeen City Council through effective service delivery and
implementation of quality measures within a Best Value
framework.

To support the Senior Quantity Surveyor in the supervision and
provision of advice and guidance to the team.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

• Degree or equivalent in appropriate technical discipline.
• Full membership of the RICS

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

• Ability to deputise for the Senior Quantity Surveyor
• Working within a multi professional design team environment.
• Monitoring budgets and undertaking cost forecasts
• Managing projects and programmes effectively on time and on budget
• Contractor management
• Consultant management
• Using oral and written methods effectively for the communication of information to
professionals, elected members and the public
• Identifying, organising and using resources effectively to complete tasks
• Thinking independently and using innovation to solve problems
• Undertaking effective contractual negotiations with confidence
• Management of quality processes
• Coaching and supporting others
• Working on own initiative and as part of a team
• Competently using computer systems and programmes.
