Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

About the role

As part of the Capital Cluster within the City Regeneration & Environment Function the purpose of this role is to deliver a full architectural design and contract administration service within the Public Buildings – Design Team which includes architectural, quantity surveying and clerks of works inspection services to deliver construction works carried out on public buildings for the City Council.

  • The post holder will be able to work independently, with minimal supervision and shall demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively, clearly and concisely with a diverse range for individuals.
  • They shall display a strong focus on delivering a high standard of customer service and shall demonstrate a positive approach to work.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

HNC, HND or Degree in Building or Architecture or equivalent

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

An ability to design and manage simultaneous projects from inception to completion.

Demonstrate competence and confidence whilst carrying out site visits, surveys and inspections and chairing meetings.

Extensive knowledge of and proficient in the use of AutoCAD, Revit and other relevant software packages such as NBS Chorus and Microsoft Office.

Ability to work under pressure to meet competing deadlines whilst prioritising own workload.

Ability to use analytical skills to process complex information and to produce creative solutions.

Relevant legislation, e.g. Scottish Building Standards, Construction Design and Management Regulations, Health and Safety at Work Act and other general health and safety legislation.

Current standard forms of building contracts.

Taking an active role in Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

The ability to travel to locations around the city to meet the requirements of the role.

Work at alternative locations as required.
