Roles that require PVG Membership
Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £31,505 per annum / £17.31 per hour)
The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

To manage, supervise and develop Justice Social Work services.
To participate in the development and delivery of strategies and services in line with:
- the legislative framework for Justice Social Work
- local and national policies, procedures and guidance
- best practice in reducing offending and protecting the community.
To monitor and promote effective use of human and financial resources.
To monitor and evaluate Justice Social Work services.
To manage a team of qualified staff in the provision and development of a specialist service working with those convicted of sexual offences in Aberdeen City
Justice Social Work is a busy service delivered by nine teams across three sites (Pre-Disposal, 3 x Community Payback Order, Unpaid Work, Throughcare, Caledonian, Women’s Services and Support Work). We are committed to the principles of early intervention and prevention; relationship-based practice; practical assistance where possible and tenacious outreach when necessary. This Senior Social Worker role will manage a team of staff in the provision and development of a specialist service working with those convicted of sexual offences in Aberdeen City and includes being responsible for oversight of high-risk MAPPA cases. While supervision and training is provided it is acknowledged that this type of work is not for everyone, and may be traumatising for some, so we would ask that you think carefully or seek further information before registering interest.
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
- Professional qualification in Social Work
- Registration with SSSC
- PVG
- MF2C Group facilitator/Treatment Manager trained or willing to undertake this.
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
- Working knowledge, skills and experience in risk assessment and management of individuals who are convicted of sexual offences
- Working knowledge and skills in delivery of accredited programmatic work to individuals who are convicted for sexual offences
- Experience of Child, Adult and Community Protection work
- Experience of using quality assurance/ performance management to improve practice
- Evidence of sound social work value base
- Demonstrable ICT skills
- Ability to manage constant and potentially competing demands
- Ability to respond creatively to resolving problems
- Highly developed interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with service users, staff, carers and internal/ external professionals to achieve improved outcomes for service users
- Group work experience
- Experience in delivery of training
