Roles that require PVG Membership

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,727 per annum / £15.97 per hour)

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

job purpose/about the role

To deliver a statutory social work service by working as part of a team and by
supporting and deputising for the Team Leader. Creating an environment where
each service user is enabled to maintain and develop their maximum potential and to contribute to the service users’ social, physical and mental wellbeing and promote active citizenship in a holistic way.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

HNC pre 2005 or
HNC Social Care (HNC G7ME15 and Practice assessed through completion
of 3 SVQ units, SVQ III Health and Social Care units DK4R04; DK4K04;
DK5704) or
SVQ 3 and/or HNC in Social Care or a relevant subject related to the field or
willing to attain within a specified period OR
Any other combination of relevant qualifications in accordance with the SSSC
registration requirements to the standard of a supervisor in a Care Home,
plus
SSSC Registration
Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme Record (PVG)
PDA in Supervision within agreed timescales

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

The ability to assess and communicate effectively both orally and in writing
with service users, staff and other stakeholders to achieve improved
outcomes for service users
The ability to produce high quality written reports
Ability to plan and manage the work of other staff; effectively motivate,
supervise staff, providing guidance and support including effective induction
Ability to manage priorities and deadlines
Operate as a member of a team and take responsibility for the health and the
safety of service users and team in their environment in conjunction with the
Group Manager
Ability to challenge poor practice
The ability to support and develop staff to advocate on behalf of service users
with professionals and appropriate agencies
Organising, chairing, taking part in regular meetings
