Job Description
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Countryside Ranger to join Aberdeenshire Council’s Ranger Service to work in the Buchan area. The Ranger Service is a team of area-based community Rangers, committed to connecting people and place. We work to raise awareness and understanding of Aberdeenshire’s natural and cultural heritage with residents and visitors. We also promote responsible countryside access, and support communities to take action on biodiversity loss and climate change. We do this through face to face sessions, by creating online information and devising interpretive materials.
We work with a diverse range of audiences, council services, volunteers, external partners and stakeholders. We therefore need our Rangers to be confident and creative communicators, and enthusiastic about sharing their broad knowledge of Aberdeenshire’s natural and cultural heritage.
As well as enjoying working with people, our Rangers need to be comfortable lone working, sometimes in remote areas. This means our Rangers must be able to make decisions using their own initiative to deliver our aims and objectives within our strategy framework.
This is a permanent annualised hours post, working an average of 18.13 hours per week with hybrid working between home and an office at Aden Country Park, Mintlaw. We are looking for these hours to be worked predominately on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
There is a requirement for physical effort in this role and flexible, evening and weekend working.
A full and current driving licence is required for this post. The post holder will also be required have access to a vehicle in order to undertake the full range of duties of the post and will occasionally be required to drive Aberdeenshire Council vehicles.
There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the organisation.
