Job Description

ABERDEENSHIRE COUNCIL – TECHNICAL OFFICER (TRADING STANDARDS)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technical Officer to join Aberdeenshire Council. Reporting to the Team Manager, you will work within Trading Standards, which forms part of Protective Services.

The post will support Trading Standards Officers and the wider Service in the delivery of regulatory, compliance and enforcement activities across Aberdeenshire.

You will assist with the delivery of projects and service initiatives, maintain accurate records, update internal systems and provide technical, logistical and administrative support to officers.

You will also support compliance visits, assist with monitoring work, maintain and prepare equipment for testing, provide advice and guidance under supervision and gather information for referral where enforcement action may be required.

As a Technical Officer, you will be expected to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, good attention to detail and the ability to work with a range of people in a professional and customer-focused manner. You should be able to take direction, work on your own initiative and manage competing priorities. Full training and support will be provided.

The role will be based at Woodhill House, Aberdeen, with the opportunity for flexible working along with field-based work. Candidates must have the ability to travel throughout Aberdeenshire at short notice.

There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the organisation.

Requirements

Applicants must hold academic achievement to SCQF Level 5, including English, or equivalent, and hold a current valid driving licence.

This post is regulated work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
