Vocational Assessor/Internal Verifier

Job Description

Aberdeenshire Council is seeking a dedicated SVQ Assessor/Internal Verifier to support the development of colleagues across our Roads & Infrastructure Services teams. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a background in road maintenance, road building, or construction, who is passionate about supporting learners and contributing to high training standards across the service.

About the Role

As a Vocational Assessor/Internal Verifier, you will play a key role in ensuring our workforce remains skilled, competent, and safe in delivering essential services. You will:

• Assess and verify candidates working toward Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) such as highways maintenance, road building, winter maintenance, health and safety in a construction environment and Street Works.
• Deliver high quality training both online and in person.
• Provide constructive feedback and support candidate development.
• Maintain compliance with Scottish roads and vocational standards.
• Work collaboratively within a supportive training team to uphold quality and continuous improvement.

This is a hybrid role, with a balance of home/remote working, office time, and site visits as required.

There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the organisation.

Requirements

Experienced roads/construction professionals willing to undertake on-the-job assessor/verifier training.

This post requires SVQ Assessor and Internal Verifier qualifications (such as L&D9, L&D91 and L&D11, V1 or equivalent). If the successful candidate does not hold the Internal Verifier qualification, they will be placed in a Vocational Qualification Assessor post and must attain it within 18 months. Support will be provided to help them achieve this

We welcome applications from individuals who are:

• Qualified SVQ Assessors/Verifiers, or
• Experienced roads/construction professionals willing to undertake on the job assessor/verifier training.

Ideal candidates will also have:

• At least three years’ experience in a roads, construction, or similar technical environment.
• Qualifications ideally at SCQF Level 7 or SVQ Level 3.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organisational skills.
• The ability to work flexibly and adapt to a range of training topics.
• A practical, supportive approach to learner engagement.
• Experience with SOLAR
