Job Description

Based at Supported Housing, Provost Johnston Rd, Montrose, covering the Angus area.

This job is workstyle 4 - Hybrid

You will have the opportunity to benefit from our flexible and agile working practices. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Housing Officer (Community Housing) to join the Community Housing Teams within Angus.

You will be responsible for a challenging but rewarding remit that includes:

• Taking a proactive person-centred approach by enabling, advising, assisting and providing specific support to tenants and other customers on housing options, tenancy matters, property and estate management and rent accounts in order to sustain their tenancy or to be able to make an informed choice about their re-housing, ensuring a high standard of customer service.

• Playing a lead role in the prevention of homelessness by comprehensively assessing housing, support and other needs of customers at risk of becoming homeless referring on to other services if necessary, to ensure those needs are met and by interpreting legislation, relevant national guidance (Code of Guidance and Housing Options Guidance) and service standards and make decisions based on this to ensure that the council meets its statutory duties including the provision of temporary accommodation, where required.

• Being responsible for lettings for mainstream, temporary accommodation and travelling sites using the Common Allocations Policy and Community Based Lettings Plans, Section 5 referrals and nominations securing accommodation to meet customers’ assessed needs and making best use of the overall stock within Angus and minimise void times.

• Ensuring the continued and effective maintenance of houses (including furnishings) and the estates that they are within, as well as ensuring compliance with both tenancy and occupancy conditions.

• Establish, develop and maintain good working relationships with tenants, tenants groups, other residents, other departments, services and range of agencies and professionals to provide safe, secure and stable communities.

• Providing an out of hours services as part of a rota including emergency repairs and assist, where required, with the administration of Civil Contingencies.

This job is temporary until no later than 13 August 2026. 

Internal and external applications on a secondment basis will be considered. You must have the approval of your line manager / organisation.
